Assuming the person using that descripton sounds approving, I'd expect something that's heavy on character and hurt/comfort.

When it's used with a disparaging tone, I'd assume something extremely tropey with a lot of eyes welling with tears, and references to pop culture memes of the year it was written.


(I don't think tropey is bad in itself, mind, just sometimes the execution can be a bit flat.)
