Favorite by far Due South.

Favorite: the Angel tv series theme tune (the cello in that piece *cheif kiss*) and I could happily listen/watch Naruto opening compilations and have done so lol. Also Star Trek Enterprise might not have been the best Star Trek series, but it's definitely my favorite theme song to sing along too like a nerd.

least favorite: the Deep Space Nine and original Red Dwarf theme - and most theme tunes with long orchestral pieces. Like, they're not bad - but I do get sick of listening to it over and over again per episode.

Lol I LOVE THE ANGEL THEME SONG!!! I was looking for it forever!!! And then finally found it (My Darling Violetta) and downloaded it ASAP. This was about 10 years ago. Or 15... The cello and vocalizations always made me feel...like I was somewhere else in time and place. It was cool and dark and beautiful all at once.

I also really liked the Hercules and Xena theme songs. And Sherlock Holmes of the 22nd Century.

A friend and I used to love the Angel theme song so much and were so frustrated there was no actual soundtrack out that we recorded it from a taped episode. The sound quality was awful but it was all we had haha!

can you tell me what the hell the lyrics are to the end theme song for WKRP? I don't understand what the guy is singing. He's worse than Creedence Clearwater.

They were meant to be unintelligible nonsense :):

The closing theme was a different song with more of a hard rock sound performed by Atlanta musician Jim Ellis, played over scenes from the episodes followed by a still photo of the Cincinnati skyline. Ellis recorded the song as a demonstration for Wilson, and as he had not yet written lyrics for it, Ellis mumbled nonsense words. Wilson chose to use the demo version because he found the gibberish lyrics funny and a satire on the unintelligible lyrics of many rock songs. Wilson also knew that the lyrics would not be heard clearly in any event, as a CBS announcer always talked over the closing credits of the network's shows.

Bwaaaahahahahahahaa!

"The closing theme, "WKRP In Cincinnati End Credits", was a hard rock number composed and performed by Jim Ellis, an Atlanta musician who recorded some of the incidental music for the show. According to people who attended the recording sessions, Ellis didn't yet have lyrics for the closing theme, so he sang nonsense words to give an idea of how it would sound. Wilson decided to use the words anyway, since he felt that it would be funny to use lyrics that were deliberately gibberish, as a satire on the incomprehensibility of many rock songs. Also, because CBS always had an announcer talking over the closing credits, Wilson knew that no one would actually hear the closing theme lyrics anyway."

Some people have named a few I like above, but one I really love/most recently are

"Slow" by Kiyoharu (The Wallflower Anime)

"Red Swan" by Yoshiki ft HYDE (Attack on Titan, season...3?)

And the classic Fushigi Yugi opening lol.

Seconding the Angel opening. I also really loved the Cold Case opening but I always hated that weird shout/scream at the start (which isn't in the actual song, fortunately).

I honestly love almost any theme song with lyrics (it’s been a rough decade for theme songs afaic *grumble grumble*). The quality of the show itself is a totally separate matter. I can love the theme even if the show is pretty bad. Anyway, I’m sure there are lots I’m forgetting, but for right now:

True Blood - Every single thing about the True Blood credits is pure perfection.
Smallville - SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAVVVVVE MEEEEEE!
Roswell - I just really like this Dido song, don’t at me.
Veronica Mars - Come on, now, sugar! Bring it on bring it on, yeah!
The OC - CALiforniaaa, CALiforniAAAAA, here we COOOOOOOOOMMME.
Fresh Prince - Iconic.
Friends - Those five claps. Also, the song paints a waayy more relatable picture of being a twenty-something than the show itself does, which is weirdly genius?
Community - The absolute perfect song for this show specifically.
Wallander - Haunting and melancholy and extremely spare in that way where you’re like, ILU Sweden, never change.
Gilmore Girls - Another absolutely perfect song for the show it’s attached to. The idea to re-imagine the song as being about mothers and daughters was *chef’s kiss*.

I think Game Of Thrones takes the cake as my least favorite, because it's so. fucking. long. and also doesn't have lyrics. It's very cool and pretty the first time, and then after that it's like, Oh hell no, *skip*.

Oh goodness, wallander has a beautiful opening, have you heard the alternative version?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w098rz-rdiQ
It's pretty similar but the accordion at the beginning really does it for me.

Re: Inspired by 2

(Anonymous) 2021-06-23 07:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I really love both! I think I prefer the lack of geographic markers in the Wallander version, but other than that it's a real toss up for me. They're both so good!

I forgot about the Smallville and Roswell openings! I love the "SOMEBODY SAAAAVE MEEEE!"

I also enjoy singing along to Charmed "I am human and I need to be loved"

Many people here have already mentioned a few of my favorites ("Twilight Zone", "Addams Family", "Munsters", "Community", etc.), so I'll add "Get Smart" to the list :).
