I feel you, nonny. I loved most of those relationships exactly the way they are.

Unfortunately, fandom is very horny.

Fandom is a huge outlet for people of sexualities that don't get portrayed in mainstream media often. I don't think unfortunate is the word you're looking for there.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-23 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
From the perspective of someone who wants to read a particular style of relationship, with the loving thought and intimacy that fanfic writers often provide - except that mostly they want to do it a different way - yes, it's unfortunate.

You dick.

(Yes, I'm happy that people get to explore things the way they want to. Very happy. But it's okay for me to be grumpy that there's less for me.)

I think they meant it's unfortunate for them as it's not to their tastes.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-23 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I look for pre-slash and long plotty slash fics as friendship fics are not many, unfortunately.
Kudos for the fandom choices, op!

(Anonymous) 2021-06-23 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
lmao at the inclusion of Zhao Yunlan and Shen Wei

(Anonymous) 2021-06-24 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Especially given what they got away with showing.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-24 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
NAYRT but is this Guardian? I watched the first couple of episodes but I have attention problems lol. Is it worth finishing?

Uh OP, two of these are literally romances in their source materials, and frankly even with the censorship Word of Honor still manages to jump all over that line. So that's not those fandoms 'getting the relationships wrong' it's them adhering to what is meant to be there but toned down due to shitty laws.

Yeah, I was nodding in agreement until I looked at the images. Censored into plausible deniability but still getting the point across as much as it can =/= platonic friendship.

nyart
Still platonic. I watched both shows and it was platonic, despite chupa-chups, NC-17 novels and all that.

"I've been more into platonic friendships than romantic ships lately, I don't really know why. I"m just doing to end up having to write fic for myself again, LOL.

These are my current favorites. They're so perfect just they way they are on screen. But finding fic that actually gets the cnaonical relationship right is almost impossible. Sisyphean, even."

two of these are not like the others, two of these don't belong~

(Anonymous) 2021-06-24 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
That was cued me in that the OP is probably trolling.

Is this font kind of hard for anyone else to read? I can't tell what the second to last word is supposed to be.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-24 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
This MUST be at least partly a troll secret. Even leaving aside Word of Honor and Guardian (and I don’t see how you can read those as purely platonic without bending over backwards to exclude the explicitly romantic tropes written for the main leads, regardless of the lack of sex on screen), the secret has Marinette and Adrien from Miraculous Ladybug. Unless something’s changed dramatically since I last watched the show, that one’s explicitly romantic.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-24 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
they dated other people between S3 and S4 and then she swore off romance because superhero responsibilities. and then they reprised the Origins umbrella scene and the pink heart bubbles background came back and seriously how does anyone watch even one episode of this show without picking up on the romance between the leads?

that's unfair, there's--let's estimate generously--maybe eight or so episodes where it's enough in the background that someone watching that episode without context could miss it. almost ninety episodes have aired somewhere in the world, mind, plus two movies.

yeah, they've very carefully picked popular m/m and m/f ships to throw off the troll scent just enough, but it's 100% meant to be bait. i mean come on they even put in jd/turk for potential race-bait wank, just no one took it because op decided that invalidating queer media was the thing to do.

I put this in a thread, but I'm just gonna do it here too:

Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu are presented as romantic through its visual medium. just because they don't say "I love you" or kiss doesn't mean that they're platonic. Just because you don't recognise it doesn't mean that the original intended audience doesn't or that it's not there.

For reference:
https://zhongwans.tumblr.com/post/653506369641758720/word-of-honor-presenting-the-romance-through

So, in conclusion: "just the way they are" for WKX and ZZS is romantic, not platonic.

(Anonymous) 2021-06-24 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Without opening the link my 2 cents - it can't be romantic because of the censorship laws. They might hint and bait but an out right romance has no chance to be anything but Web series in China if that.
