Yes, but you're assuming that "the usual suspects" are looking for things that are wrong in media and attacking them. But in fact, they don't give a shit about canon except as fuel, they're in it to bully and harass people who do the "wrong" thing. The TV version of this ship isn't very big, so there's no interest in it from the bullying side.
