I mostly agree. People pretend that no effort is required in fanfiction, but if you're writing in someone else's world, you do have to crosscheck if you want to keep with canon. I think people who say such things just assume we're all posting original stories wearing canon skins, when that couldn't be further from the truth. (Note that I'm not knocking fics that ignore canon, the writer has every right to do that. It's just that when you are keeping true to the original story, it does take extra effort.)
