How do you feel about rain?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-10 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
It is supposed to rain today and if it passes by us, I will be so mad!

Depends on if I have to drive in it or not. If I don't, then I love it. But if I'm going to have to drive out in it, I don't like it unless it is really light rain. I hate driving in rain.

On the one hand, it sucked when we didn't get any for weeks and the yellow grass crunched when you stepped on it and all the flowers were wilting when they should have been blooming (except the ones in my yard that I watered).

On the other hand, days of rain - making up for what we lacked? - has left standing pools of water all over the place and turned the area back by the creek from a meadow into a bog, and I can't go outside my house without being swarmed by mosquitoes. Even if I slather myself with deet, they try to land on my eyeballs and lips because you can't use deet in your eyes and mouth - and I inhale them when I breathe.

Rain itself is pleasant enough as long as I don't have to drive in the really heavy stuff.

Love it. The more the better.

As long as it isn't too much or too little, I'm good with it. One of my favorite rain moments is in the summer, in the mid or late afternoon, when the rainfall is tapering off but the clouds are still around... and it creates this lovely tint in the air and on the grass and on everything else. And rainbows are always welcome.

Inside with the rain absolutely hammering down is easily the top three most kino weather types. Unbelievably satisfying, especially when it's been a bit muggy and you've got the window open and hear that pattering.

In a really good year we might get 15-16 inches, in a bad year, less than 10. It's been a few bad years in a row and it's bad years more often than not now.

In other words, I daydream about burying climate change deniers up to their necks in the desert as a sacrifice to the rain gods.

I love the rain. I love having a day off on a grey, cold, rainy day and spending it watching the traffic from my window. I love falling asleep at night listening to a steady rainfall. I love the smell of the wet earth and petrichor. I love thunderstorms and even violent storms, I love seeing it rain sideways or in torrents, "like a cow pissing on a flat rock". I love seeing great miles-high columns of cumulonimbus clouds at sunset (Texas and Oklahoma are great places for this). One of the fondest memories of my life is sitting in a quiet bar on a Tuesday afternoon in June in New York City in 1998, drinking wine, listening to Thelonious Monk, and looking out the open door watching passers-by in a drizzly rain that lasted all day. I love the rain.

as a gardener I love it, I need it, but too much of it is a killer.

come to think of it, same applies to stupid people driving through floodwaters...

anyway, this hefty dose of climate change reality in 2021 sucks donkey balls. I feel bad for people in Texas and Louisiana who are getting literal feet of rain while the West has to grapple with the possibility that we may need to abandon California because the water is never coming back. But on a smaller scale in the midwest, it's also feast or famine. We get inches all at once and then two weeks of no rain. No plant can live under these conditions. We're fucked, fam.

I love it as long as I don't have to drive. I work in an area that gets flooded very easily and it's a pain in the ass having to take detours to get back home. But if it's raining when I'm at home and have no place to be, I absolutely love it. I find it very calming.

As long as I don't have to walk in it anywhere. I'm fine. It's very relaxing.

But where I live, the weather doesn't know what it's going to do for like an hour beforehand. So, you definitely have to keep an eye on the forecast before heading out.

I live in the rainiest city in the continental US. Nope, not in the pacific northwest; Mobile, Alabama!

It's rained nearly every day this summer. I'm happy to have rain instead of drought, though.

People don't realize we live in a tropical/monsoon climate here.

I used to really love storms and rain, but since the pandemic hit, it makes me kinda sad. I started running since a lot of gyms closed, and am still very leery about gyms now that they've opened up (in the US, for reference).

I do love how the city I moved to seems to have more storms than my old one (It just had rain, not really much big lightning/thunder stuff). Makes me think of where I grew up

Rain and especially thunderstorms help me sleep. Zzzz.

I live in a city where it rains all the damn time, so I really hate rain. Also, I'm a public-transit user which makes me hate rain even more, because public transit involves a lot more being out side than taking a car does. Also, my hair is silky smooth when it's dry, but in humidity it goes to shit. Plus I'm always cold, and rain and cold tend to go together, so that's yet one more reason why I hate rain. In short: fuck rain.

However, if it's a full-on downpour that can be kind of fun.

And obvious as much as I hate rain, it's something large portions of the plant could desperately use more of, so like...more rain please? Just not where I am; I've got enough.

I don't mind the rain in Autumn, Spring and Summer, although it makes me want to nap. Thunderstorms are awesome. Winter rain sucks.
