I'mma take a slightly different tack and not worry about the "comfort" bit. But OP, this happens to a LOT of bookworms. I used to think it was because I got into fandom and read a lot of manga and fic, but many years and many shared anecdotes later, and I realize this actually happens a lot. A lot of people who used to read excessively, whether it was only in childhood/high school or up through later in life, eventually hit a point where you just can't find anything good anymore. and it doesn't seem limited to a current year, trend among genre books, etc - I will take recs for books of any age by any author so long as it hits my buttons and yet every rec has failed. I just can't get into books anymore whether they're 20 years old or published this year.

So, you're not alone. You're part of a wave of disenchanted bookworms. I wish I had a solution or advice but all I can say is, know you're not the first nor the last and there's lots of others you can hang around and chat with about how many books you returned to the library/sold back after four chapters.
