Look, it's just hard to take a wizard seriously when his name sounds exactly like a support group for family members of alcoholics. Questor Thews is peak ridiculous fantasy naming, but it doesn't have that record-scratch quality.

DA - Also, in the context of the story, Questor Thews being a ridiculous fantasy name is kind of the point. Ben's been thrown into what seems like a ridiculous fantasy scenario, and a decent chunk of his plotline in the first book is him realizing that the stakes are higher than the silly names and talking dog would indicate at first.

Shannara is supposed to be High Fantasy, and the names that aren't literally ripped off from Tolkien (there is a character named Durin, ffs) are things like Allanon and Flick. It's a little distracting.
