Agree anon. I've noticed that as I get older my tolerance for weak characterisation is going way down, especially if they're involved in a plot that isn't doing anything special.

Equally, a bog-standard plot can be saved by something that comes across as a genuine fresh eye. But "blah" characters definitely ruin things more for me.

Characters who exist solely to make the plot function a specific rigid way as well...I'm a bit bored of those.
