Well, at least you're not claiming that celebrities are conspiring to gaslight you this time.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't be an asshole, nonny.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Secret OP is clearly a troll.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt

And your point is...? They're a troll, so that entitles you to dump on a past secret OP, who may or may not be the OP here? Is that what you're saying?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
The past secret OP is also an obvious troll.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's nice. You are of the opinion that they are a troll, so that entitles you to be an asshole?

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The anon I was responding to is clearly a bully.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
How on Earth is this secret trollish? What the OP is talking about happens to people in fandom every day. It's a normal practice.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Just...make new accounts. How is this a problem in this day and age? I have like 2-3 accounts on literally every fandom space.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
This. And it may sound mean but I am with anon below. If you're being ostracized on EVERY PLATFORM maybe you need to do a little soul searching about the way you're acting in these spaces.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know your whole story OP, but pretty much how things are on fandoms in recent years have worsened my social anxiety to a point that I barely talk to anyone online (Fandom Secrets is literally the place I comment and interact with the most due to anonymity)
Staying under the radar with little interaction has allowed me to take part without getting involved in drama or whatever batshittery is happening - but its also very isolating. Yet seeing how people will tear each other to shreds over the dumbest things simultaneously makes me glad not to engage with people who intend to die on their hills for absolutely dense reasons.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
sorry OP if this hurts to think about but maybe you need to hear it: the adage that if everyone around you seems to be an asshole who drives you out of groups or ghosts you or rejects you, chances are you're the asshole, is more likely to be true than not.

I have had a ton of fandom acquaintances and friends of friends, travelers in the same circles, who after a bit of time, basically prove that adage true. Over the past 20 years I have literally never met someone who was entirely innocent of wrongdoing and yet been chased out of every fandom group, circle, internet forum, or social media connection. If you find that everyone seems to hate you and no one seems to like you, it's definitely you. Whether you're doing things so wrong that people can't deal with you and would rather kick or ghost, or you have some internal processing problem that envisions persecution where there is none, either way...it's you.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Ehhh, I know a few people over the years who pissed off a fandom clique for some reason (an unpopular opinion about a character, a very popular fic that got scooped by The Claw, etc.) and were basically hounded out due to envy or just bitchiness. Like, just ripped on anon memes back in the LJ days or whatever.

It's mostly true that jerks are the ones ostracized, but if you remember school and bullying...I moved a lot, saw a lot of schools, and saw almost every kind of kid get a turn in the barrel sometimes. Fandoms can be immature and full of drama and mean kids, too.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Given there's rarely a lot of overlap between DW fandom and Discord/Tumblr/whatever fandom, if someone really has been booted from every iteration of a fandom, it probably is due to shitty behavior.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
No, there's a lot of overlap in some fandoms.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
...yeah, that's the case for me too, but I've definitely seen people run out for really minor stuff. One friend who was very welcoming to newbies, then promptly had a few of the newbies turn on her and try to "take her down" to prove that they weren't newbies. And people who aren't neurotypical sometimes get bullied in mean girl high school ways that they don't deserve, and then when they try to fight back they're the one to get banned for breaking forum rules, because the bullies are socially adept enough to not break the rules.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
This is what I was thinking too. Like, pissing off the wrong clique is one thing. That can happen. But if you're met with extreme negativity (or just shunned) everywhere you go, then yeah, the odds are you're either conducting yourself badly or you're tilting at windmills. Or a bit of both.

I'm sorry, OP. I'm sure the pain you feel over this is real, and I do hope things get better for you, regardless of why they're bad right now.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The lovely thing about the internet is that it's super easy to start over. All you have to do is get a new account under a different name and not repeat whatever asshole move got you banned from all of fandom before.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-25 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been there. It's a bit shit but I still kept in contact with some of the people who could see that the gatekeeper was a dick. And he's run the place into the ground, so I guess it doesn't matter? Still miss the old times though.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
People on Ffs are not the most compassionate and understanding, js.

Have you tried creating a new account, OP?

Anyway just keep trying. Do fandom for you and not for others.

Also some fandoms are like that. Depends on BNFs really.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yep, I was in a fandom over a decade ago that was heavily male dominated and they were desperate to get rid of the teenage girls and women.
The reasons were stupid such as
- Liking Yaoi
- Caring about the lore and characters vs the action.
- Liking an unpopular character
- Drawing fanart that wasn’t fan service of the female characters etc
Mods would just stand by and let the belittling continue.

(Anonymous) 2021-07-26 11:00 am (UTC)(link)
And they would send people from unrelated fandoms to follow you around chanting “Unclean! Unclean!” in order to chase you off every fandom platform on the internet. It was rough in the old days. Luckily, we’ve got proxies now so even if the unwashed fandom hordes do decide that’s worth their time you can throw them off your trail forever and start over.

OP here

I haven't been hounded out of everywhere, just the two main places. I'm part of smaller communities for the same fandom. One person even created a tiny little community for me and a few others.

Fandom is like high school. The cliques, the piling on, the attacks.
