It is possible to get it right on one issue and be very wrong on another. It is possible to not be homophobic while also being transphobic. People are complicated. But JKR is transphobic and she refuses to even listen to trans people and actually learn. It would be one thing if she said transphobic stuff but then listened to criticism and understood why she was wrong and changed. But she keeps insisting her transphobic perspective is right and keeps on saying transphobic things over and over again, even after being called out.

Pretty much this.

This.

(Also, I do think she's homophobic. Not actively so in the way that she's actively transphobic, but deciding that Dumbledore was gay and in love with Wizard Hitler in response to a fan question about whether he ever found love is a weird look at best.)

That at least is a stretch given Dumbledore shunned Grindelwald when he went full Hitler and renounced his extremist views?

It's still weird for me whether he renounced it or not, mainly because how she phrased the answer (which I had to look up, since it was a long time ago). The question—paraphrasing—was basically "did he ever find love?" and the answer was "he's gay actually," which doesn't answer the question at all. "He had a boyfriend/husband/string of one-night-stands with other dudes" would be an answer to the question, otherwise it implies that gay people can't find love.

What she actually ended up implying was that he was a Tragic Gay who fell in love with one guy and spent the next half-century or whatever pining, and then died. I cut her some slack at the time because queer representation in both fantasy and children's lit left a lot to be desired, and because she's writing in a universe where most people seem to get hung up on their first love and either end up with that person or die lonely and pining. But she had subsequent interviews and tweets to tell us all about wizard toilets or lack thereof, and my slack diminished as a result.

This exactly. I can vouch for the fact that transphobia isn't permanent - I was pretty ignorant in years past on the issue, and I'm still pretty ignorant honestly. But one thing I did learn? Keep my mouth shut and listen. Another thing? If I hurt someone with what I said in ignorance, apologize.

Which is pretty much the opposite of what she's doing, which as far as I can tell is sticking her fingers in her ears and going "la la la la can't hear you my mind is made up so there". If someone refuses to listen and learn, I really can't respect them.
