(Anonymous) 2021-08-02 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)I'm not in the same fandom but I've tried to have discussions with fans who had never read/seen the canon, yet insisted that their personal opinion was the correct one, and it's fucking infuriating. It absolutely brings to mind the whole 'my ignorance is as good if not better than your fact' kind of people, and yeah they're annoying as fuck to deal with because they will never realise that their lack of knowledge actually means they don't get to talk about the canon like they're an expert.
You can enjoy something without knowing the canon, it's not how I go about my fic/fandom-consumption but I can get people doing this, but you actually cannot have an informed opinion of it if you've never SEEN it. That's literally how that works.
