I like modern-set vampire things only if the media is pure escape. Things like Buffy where things are clearly not set in our world even though it is supposed to be the modern-ish world setting.

I like modern vampire stuff except when there's an elaborate secret vampire society, with like secret codes and titles and stuff. I can't stand that kinda stuff.

I'm a big fan of vampire media too. We'd have to get way more of it than we have before I'd get remotely tired of it.

I haven't enjoyed any modern fantasy for similar reasons. I know a lot of sparkly woo-woo people irl and they're GREAT and I LOVE them but between three of them you'll get four opinions on how magic works. So I can't take it seriously that there really is magical force that *works* the same for everyone with defined rules. Or someone googles deamons/vampires/spirits and finds helpful information on their first try. Nope.
