I also find obvious fandom names cringe on a personal level - I won't even give them to my pets, much less an actual child - but that seems a bit harsh? I know a few folks who've done that and even spoken to the (teen) kids about it and for the most part they were pretty chill and even liked that they had fairly unique names that weren't just increasingly strange misspellings of "Madison" or whatever? (And yes, these are kids with names more on the "Galadriel" and "Anakin" side of the spectrum, as opposed to things like "Sam" or "Luke" or "Leah.")

Also, if the fannnish name is one that conceivably could already exist as a name that real people have, what happens when you name your baby and then a big popular thing comes out with a character with the same name? Star Wars wasn't the first time anyone was named Luke! In junior high, when I was heavy into Star Trek and DS9 was in its early seasons, there was a girl in my class named Kira and I thought it was so cool she had the same name as a Star Trek character. Obviously, her parents had named her that long before the DS9 Kira was even a glint in a screenwriter's eye.

Not even pets seems like a weird line? Like my cat is named Leela after DW Leela and honestly because it's a "real" name no one's ever really noticed unless I bring it up.
