Oh god no... was that... ever going to be a thing?

NAYRT but IME usually with these things, what happens is that Nic Cage is a huge nerd who wants to play every iconic nerd character and so people ask him "do you want to be Aragorn" and he's like "Hell yeah I want to play Aragorn, sign me up, I'm Nic Cage". But it doesn't mean it was actually going to happen.

That makes sense. Hollywood can be terrible about always wanting to cast big names regardless of whether or not it'd actually work. I just... my brain short circuited while I tried to picture Nicholas Cage as Aragorn.

DA

Original casting was Stuart Townsend who didn't work out for various reasons. I'm glad they went with Viggo, IMO, Townsend was too pretty at the time. Aragorn is supposed to be a handsome guy but he should look like he's been sleeping outside for decades, because he has.

Yeah, his real name is Nicholas Coppola, but he changed it to "Cage" as in Luke Cage from Marvel comics. He was attached to a Superman movie but most of the nerd casting for him is exactly what you say - him going "HELL YEAH!"
