It was one of those casting decisions where I thought... er, why? Again, love Hugo Weaving in other roles, but I'm not sure why he'd be the go-to for Elrond. They're elves, it'd make more sense to cast as though you're NOT limited by actual chronological age of the actor so long as he looks arguably older than Arwen.
