I don't see how the chances of that are any higher than if you name your kid after a relative or something. Kid might end up not caring about or even hating the relative they're named after too (I personally know two people for whom that's the case - they were named after relatives that they've now cut all ties with and go by different names/nicknames/middle names as a result).

OK, and if this were a secret about naming kids after relatives, that would be a good point. Also, naming a kid after a fandom character or naming a kid after a relative are not the only two options here. In fact, both support the suggestion that parents choose a name that DOESN'T have some kind of personal meaning or attachment to THEM, and instead decide on a name that will be the kid's own.
