(Anonymous) 2021-08-11 12:49 am (UTC)(link)Second, I'm having sort of the opposite of this problem right now: I've bought all the books in a friends' series and genuinely enjoyed them, no lying or fluffing up. She just recently started publishing a new series in a new genre, but it seems as if she doesn't want me to read them. I feel super rude not buying the books, but she didn't even tell me the day they went up (I'd been moral support for the whole writing process, so it's not like this was a secret she wanted to keep personal) and when I said I'd buy the new books, she handwaved me off and said it "wasn't my thing." I've snooped around and found the links on Amazon but I don't know if I should actually buy them or not now.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-11 02:17 am (UTC)(link)The thing about KDP is in the reports, it doesn't tell you who bought it. If you want to buy her books and not have her know, just don't tell her?
Like, maybe those books aren't your thing. But if they aren't your thing, then she should be pubbing them under a different pseudonym because the probably won't be the rest of her current audience's thing either.
Like, I don't really let my friends arbitrate what I may or may not like. They don't know all the time! I've read a LOT of different stuff. Give her new books a look inside read at least to see. I mean, you may like them anyways.
