Not saying this is necessarily the case, but sometimes people are just tired and out of it. I had a very nice interaction with Cozy Werewolf Anon, and decided I wanted to read their books, which are very up my alley. It's been like a year, and I still haven't read or purchased their books. I'm just very very tired, and small things sometimes feel insurmountable.

Not everything is malice or apathy, sometimes it's just incompetence.

I’m the exact opposite, I’d rather never see books I enjoy adapted. I can easily ignore the show or film, but it also changes the fandom and that’s the part I hate about adaptations. But it’s easy to keep my mouth shut and wait until the fandom settles back down before engaging again and always there are new people and new perspectives to get to know thanks to the adaptation.

Honestly, I like all kinds of adaptations, especially when there's more than one, because I mostly see them as an interpretation of the original, so it's like looking at it through somebody else's eyes. Even if it fails at being true to what I see, it's interesting to me.

There's a lot to unpack here, but I'll just address the main point: RL vs fandom has nothing to do with it.

People IRL aren't any different when it comes to actually spending money or time or effort that they don't really want to spend.

If they seem better IRL, it's because they're too polite to refuse when you're exerting pressure on them face to face.

I can't find it and it's driving me crazy, but isn't this secret a repost from like, a long time ago? I distinctly remember discussions about whether telling someone you'd buy the book meant you actually had to do so, and whether "real friends" should have to buy the book considering the low price.

I get really uncomfortable when money comes into play. I know 99 cents is like, nothing, but if someone doesn't want to buy something, they shouldn't. I think it's the polite thing to be supportive and buy the book like a friend would, especially if I've been encouraging my friend to keep writing and maybe get published one day. 99 cents isn't a lot of money either.
However, I don't think anyone is owed a purchase. I'd be annoyed, and very disappointed, to see a lot of people made me empty promises but at the end of the day, I wouldn't want to push people to give me money, you know? Like, fine, you don't want to buy my book, rude after telling me for a long time that you would, but like...I wouldn't want to ruin relationships over a book purchase.

honestly yeah, that's... one of the best things about stories hang in there OP, our kinks aren't really things we pick. it's good to hear whenever arts can help people!
