Yes, I know this. What I'm saying is... was it a deliberate move on his part?

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
People don't care if it was deliberate or not. It's still a bad look and considering that a lot of pop stars are involved politically with the government one way or another specifically in China particularly, it's honestly not a surprise there's huge outcry about it.

If it's not the fans of this generation who don't care as much about Japanese war crimes, sponsors would immediately drop him just for the whole issue.

People don't care if it was deliberate or not.

Oughtn't they?

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Welllll it's up to the fans then how they want to deal with it I guess.

The Chinese government has a considerable amount of social control so to go against that or disagree is political, economic and social suicide more or less for the star themselves.

Not to say that there are ways to go against certain bans/censors or that people blindly follow the government in China but I don't see a lot of people caring about the situation to that degree aside from the diehard fans.

I mean its not a surprising move in western society either. Just look at cancel culture. If you're arguing that people should care then it's more of an individualistic argument. Some people care about distinctions, a good vocal majority don't. Should people care? Ideally yes but a lot of folk like being outraged and yelling about it despite the actual intent of the subject in question.

Cancel culture doesn't actually exist though, plenty of abusers and rapists have come back to restart their careers and while people might get fired for being shit-heels, they're not barred from the industry or erased like they were never there.

Individuals are given the choice to support or not support who they want, it's not mandated by the industry to this, honestly scary, extent.

Wellllll that's what happens when the government has social control. I guess if you're not familiar with how the Chinese govt works this must all be very scary and fucky in comparison. Not to say it isn't but to call it a surprise it isn't.

Talk to any mainlander about what you can and cannot talk explicitly about online about certain topics and you'll realise that a lot of this stuff is normalized. Again there are a sizeable chunk that realize it's fucked but the sizeable chunk have no real ability to change things or is directly profiting from the government in such a way they can afford to buck things in a way poorer people can't and thus don't want to change the status quo.

Exactly. Just look at what happened to the doctor in Wuhan who tried to warn people about Covid when the outbreak started.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
If so, that's disturbing and very toxic.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
A friend linked me this because I only understood half of it, too. Idk if it helps?

Poster from earlier, it looks like from what's going on the situation is highly political as I suspected and that the Chinese government is making an example out of the star.

Sad but I don't see things looking up for the guy. Is it fucked up yeah? But all together not a surprise.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-25 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks for the link, that's... really sad. And crazy.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-26 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, that's really horrifying. Some of the shit that's been done to this guy is stuff I wouldn't even support doing to Trump. Which is really saying something considering if Trump was on fire I wouldn't piss on him to save him.

(Anonymous) 2021-08-26 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
Holy crap. I hope that dude's got a good support system because that's absolutely insane.

DA I've been there, and there's a park outside where people often take wedding pictures, and I think that's where the photos are. You have to pass under the famous iron torii (gate) to actually enter the shrine. But OP of this thread is completely correct about the lack of education about Japan's role as an aggressor in WWII let alone the horrific war crimes they committed. And the Yasukuni shrine literally deifies some of those war criminals.

Deliberate? Probably not. Incredibly dumb? Yes.
