I felt like John was a completely separate character to Jack O'Neill and the writers just didn't know what to do with that. Then Rodney I felt like they were living vicariously through (long suffering misunderstood genius who gets the hot girl in the end). Twyla and Elizabeth were barely more than tropes.

In the end, I felt like all the decent stuff in Atlantis came from the actors pushing beyond the shitty writing.

I hear that Rodney sucks, but since I've never watched this show and just read slash fic, I'll forget what I heard.

He doesn't really, at least imo. It's a weird dichotomy between the characters as they grow to be, and the writers who occasionally gave them good stuff but mostly were trying to write an almost different show.

It's like John and Teyla. The writers kept pushing it, but both the actors kept pushing it back because they didn't feel it was right for their characters.

There's some great stuff between all four of the main team, and there's a lot of slash potential between John and Rodney too. The sci-fi is decent, if prone to an American imperialist take but that's standard so it doesn't jar too much.

Honestly, I'd recommend it. If nothing else it's fertile ground for fic.

Yeah, I agree
