I love SGA. Sorry it was a miss for you, OP. Teyla, Ford, and Ronon were certainly likeable if you didn't like John or Rodney.

I felt like John was a completely separate character to Jack O'Neill and the writers just didn't know what to do with that. Then Rodney I felt like they were living vicariously through (long suffering misunderstood genius who gets the hot girl in the end). Twyla and Elizabeth were barely more than tropes.

In the end, I felt like all the decent stuff in Atlantis came from the actors pushing beyond the shitty writing.

I hear that Rodney sucks, but since I've never watched this show and just read slash fic, I'll forget what I heard.

He doesn't really, at least imo. It's a weird dichotomy between the characters as they grow to be, and the writers who occasionally gave them good stuff but mostly were trying to write an almost different show.

It's like John and Teyla. The writers kept pushing it, but both the actors kept pushing it back because they didn't feel it was right for their characters.

There's some great stuff between all four of the main team, and there's a lot of slash potential between John and Rodney too. The sci-fi is decent, if prone to an American imperialist take but that's standard so it doesn't jar too much.

Honestly, I'd recommend it. If nothing else it's fertile ground for fic.

Yeah, I agree

It's been a while since I've watched it all the way through so I might not be 100% remembering but...

For me about two and a bit seasons were ok? The first part of the first season wasn't great but then it seemed to get into its stride. But I recall quite enjoying season 2-3 and it's after Elizabeth was half-killed by that laser blast and they had to move the city where it started to go off the boil for me. It literally felt like they were making it up as they went along, which ok is a common thing for science-fiction, but it was too obvious. I also really, really hated Replicators in SG-1 sooo.

I thought there were still some good themes throughout though, like Sheppard's interactions with Todd and the ethical questions it posed (especially given what happened with Michael.) I don't think that arc (Todd) really got a satisfying resolution either iirc.

I loved the first 3 seasons, and I stuck around for S4 because I love Sam, but yeah, the characters definitely have to grow on you, especially Rodney, haha.

I think John is hilarious but Jack isn't my style. Rodney is pretty obnoxious but I find him quite funny, too. I get wishing it was better, though. The show is such a mess lol

I like SG1 and SGA both. Rodney was super cool and I felt like the writers did a good job developing him. He started as a bit of a coward - understandable - then boom! he saved everyone and became a part of the main team.

Jack and John are similar but different. I wish there were more fics with these two interacting. It's just too funny.

I felt like they could do more with Elizabeth, give her some more time and plot. I don't understand her character at all. She's professional and a workaholic... and that's it.

Aw, that's too bad. I enjoyed a lot of it (mostly the team stuff) and the Rodney & John show. I could have done with the America!HooRah!colonizers crap.

The fic is much, much, much more fun, in my opinion.

I didn’t stick around long enough to have any strong opinions on the characters tbh. I thought the acting was abysmal and bounced a few episodes in.

I kinda adored SGA, and I'm pleasantly surprised by how active the fandom (at least on the fic side of things) still is.
