You know Cozy Werewolf Author and I had a conversation where she said many many authors really think they have something in the copyright sphere, so I honestly think it's a mixture of publicity and misguided righteousness has sort permeated social media so much so that it's now an actual social habit/atmosphere.

Also....how do I put this. People with social media clout have the truly odd tendency to believe that that's the only clout that matters anymore (because they know that their social media clout is what gained them their book deals in the first place), so they can ~call out~ those people in their industry without social media clout. However, NOTHING has supplanted personal connections as power and unless we never meet in person again, I have doubts that anything actually will.

Agreed. And, social media clout does not always equal money. I'm pretty sure Nora Roberts' main demographics are not plugged in on Twitter and that doesn't stop them from buying her books in numbers most authors can only dream of.

lol right? Nora Roberts' readers don't care about this, and thus neither do Roberts' publishers.
