Same, nonny. (In that I believe FS! has helped me.)

I appreciate F!S for being one of few fannish spaces populated mostly by people 30 and over.

It was definitely a pleasant surprise when I realized how old the members here are. Nice to be amongst peers.

God, same. Fellow oldie in that age range, too. I feel like the internet is skewing more and more to the younger folks (or maybe just the internet getting bigger means they're much louder, I don't know), but sometimes it makes me feel like Old Person Yells as Cloud. So it's nice to be among folks my age, if not for my sanity.

I think on some level we are all that Grampa Simpson quote about not being with It anymore. :(

Speaking of simpsons, I felt like I've reached "old" when all the simpsons quote I spout from the classic era now often falls onto deaf ears. The young 'uns don't get the millions of quotes and refs of that time period whenever I randomly quote a line from that era. Alas.

Same here OP. I struggle with severe social anxiety that's crossed over onto online spaces to the point I don't really talk with anyone there - so its nice to be anonymous here and communicate with other humans like this.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-05 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I appreciate the anonymity and that pretty much every conversation is dropped in 48 hours max.

(Anonymous) 2021-09-05 10:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed, anon. I love the anonymity of F!S. It's definitely easier to admit you're wrong on anon and just let things go. And if you do happen to get into a spat with someone, they can't go digging through your old posts/comments to bring them into the argument.

i used to crave the recognition/familiarity you get as a named user but f!s really has taught me appreciation for anonymity... it's such a relief to be able just move on from any bullshit you or someone else might have said without a second thought. and when you're talking to anons there's usually no point in trying to respond days later anyway because they don't get notifications

honestly now i'm kind of the opposite where i get super uncomfortable saying things on twitter/tumblr with my main username attached to the point where i'll just delete any posts that are a couple days old (unless it's still an active conversation or w/e)

Yeah, I think more people should do what you did and hang out in anon spaces while they're learning. Much less opportunity for people to track down their dumb teenage shit and shame them later, for one thing.

FS helped me a lot. I was doing exposure based therapy when the pandemic hit. I couldn't do it on real life. I started doing it on here. I struggle a lot with any form of criticism, so I'd air some unpopular thought and opinions, and deal with the discomfort. The anonymity made me feel safe enough to sit with the discomfort.

Hello! Thank you secret maker, and thank you everyone for replying. Reading the comments has brought a big smile to my face, and I'm glad that everyone else has been having a good time here as well. :')
