I'm so sorry, anon. Absolute 100% sympathetic with your plight, and I wish I had some advice.

But also, genuinely laughed my ass off reading this.

This seems pretty easy to get around for me: think of the child as [name][surname1] and character as [name][surname2]. Even if the first name is unique and the character in question has no canon surname, I assume the child does not have the exact same full name as the fictional character, and there's a big mental gap between like, Sherlock Holmes and Sherlock Smith. Unless your brother is naming his child the equivalent of Sherlock Holmes and then I'd feel worse for the kid than anyone else
