Huh, whereas I enjoyed the show just fine and thought the both of them were fun characters even if the show had it's weak parts I still found it cute. But I'm also not a die-hard fan of either actor so I have no stake in claiming one as better than the other, I thought they worked well together despite the shows flaws, which is all I need sometimes.

I thought it was OK, pace was a bit uneven at times, though. I didn't like the female lead character as much because she was very... IDK muted? But they were cute together and things got more interesting as it went along. The plot was very messy, though.

AYRT.

Oh I didn't think it was bad, just as you said: a bit uneven pace-wise and the plot was kind of all over the place. The leads kept me watching tbh because I thought they were pretty cute and am always here for male leads stanning their lady-leads with 200% enthusiasm. I quite liked Zhou-Fei myself but YMMV and all that, but I can see why she would come off as muted. Personally I think the both of them did their best with a kinda weak script imo, like it wasn't fantastic yanno? But I had a decent time with it.

I'm not surprised if it didn't do that well in China though, cute as I found it I can see why audiences might have failed to click with it.

I've seen three dramas adapted from the book author, Priest, now and I think the problem lies in the adaptability of her works. Endless meandering establishing narrative that probably works well in a novel but makes a drama crawl along to the point where you aren't even sure if there is a plot or a point.

And yeah, I only watched this one for Wang Yibo but I grew to enjoy the group of characters and even the 'hot grandpa' flashbacks. LOL

Personally, I don't think her novels are among the better ones tbh. I know plenty of fans would disagree but I have always found her novels to be kinda lacking at a certain point, almost like she lost steam while writing halfway through.

China's banning feminine pretty boys, right? So are all the Chinese dramas going to be cancelled soon?
