So not liking someone’s interpretation of a character is considered discrimination? Sounds extreme.

No I’m not heckling the commentator. I’m trying to understand the situation.

Their only “criticism” of OP’s interpretation of the characters and ship is “they made them gay!”. It’s not impossible for that to not be as homophobic as it sounds, but it’s pretty unlikely. I wouldn’t assume it’s a simple disagreement with character interpretation after all the times I’ve seen this type of comment in my almost 20 years in fandom.

But it all comes down to: This is a fanfiction that OP specifically tagged that these characters be in a non-canon gay relationship. There’s absolutely no use in this person commenting angrily that they “made these characters gay”. That’s not a criticism or a disagreement. It serves no purpose but for this commenter to complain about things they don’t like existing.

OP has no reason to care what this person thinks, because it’s their fic. They can do what they want. There’s most likely other fics that have these characters in a ship this commenter would approve of. So they should stick to those and leave people alone. Unless they have something of value to say that’s not just whining about fic and ships they don’t like. They have a right to say what they want, but everyone else has a right to ignore and disregard them.

Again, nobody thinks they’re annoying because they have an opinion. It’s because they think their opinion is more important than anyone else’s, and no one should go against that opinion.

I wasn’t calling you a heckler, I was calling the commenter you’re defending one. And look, wanting to understand is fine. But I’ve basically explained my point as well as I’m able. If I’ve failed to explain what I’m trying to say in an understandable way, then you’re best of asking someone else. I can talk a lot, but that doesn’t mean that I’m good at explaining what I mean well, and I have issues with tone over text. So I’m not trying to be passive-aggressive when I say this.

So I read the secret again, and yes, we do get the OP’s perspective. I agree with you that the OP is right to disregard that comment at the end of the day, it is their fic. They can do whatever they want.

Initially, when I posted my comment, I was thinking, “yes op has the right to be annoyed, though not everyone is going to like their fic and may express their own opinion about it regardless.” Until you pointed out the unfortunate implications behind it.

Also I’m not familiar with the fic in question, nor do I know the comment that annoyed the OP in question. I’m not sure how to ‘defend’ the commenter if I have not read the actual comment in question. They could be trolling, or there could be criticism underneath. I wouldn’t know. The op only gave their summary and POV of the comment, not the actual comment itself.
