And to 10, I so, so agree. ._. which is why I keep my writing journal to myself.

9. Me too D+ Actually, I don’t think I’ve tried. It just pops up.

3. I feel the same way a lot of times. If I get into a series, I'd rather it be because I'm interested, not because someone else is telling me about it.

In honesty though, I get intimidated by a lot of RP these days, which is... really sad because I LOVE to RP and have no idea where to start if you're not already in the scene on LJ as it were. It feels like so long since I was involved in a decent fandom RP because it HAS been so long.
Btw, hi! I know you :D

Honestly, are there ANY 'plots' out there aside the "Your character is thrown into a school/island/porn store* with many other characters. HOW WILL THEY REACT?! WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!" thing these days? =/
I clearly do not mind the butting-in, for it is good for healthy interaction :D

2. I don't think that an artist has to be better than another in order to have a fandom, they really just have to supply something people want. I won't name names here but there are several insanely popular artists on dA and elsewhere who have insane pageviews and rabid fans, and their own fandom more or less ... and their art really isn't that good -- one of them most recently was caught tracing art and subsequently banned from Y!gallery. It's sad. There's so much art out there that it's difficult to become known through art alone. Talent sometimes gets overlooked for how marketable something is. Don't let it get you down if it does. I used to get depressed as far as fanart goes years, but really you can't take it personally. I draw because I enjoy it.
6. Exactly. I don't care how well you can make them sound like the character, if you're saying stuff they would never, ever say. You're not RPing them well.
8. I have a lot of friends who share in this secret. Most of them it's the other way. I don't think anyone would think less of you for it if you let it be known, but that might be because I'm just so used to it now. Good luck! ^^

7. I didn't cry, but I WAS moved.
10. It is a hard thing to do with any confidence. You get worried that people will hate you for blowing your own horn and such. I try not to self-promote.
11. *whimpers* I hope I haven't done any of this recently. I've been working so hard to make my stories suited to the NPCs. I would hate being disloyal to them. Would make me D:
12. Yeah... Been there, felt that.

For a long while, I had it the opposite way. Nearly all of my online friends - fandom!friends or otherwise - believed me to be male, for a very long time. This was because of the fact that I presented myself to be that, despite how I was born.
My reasons for doing so are fairly simple: I'm transgender.
Upon coming to the conclusion that I truly was, I dealt with it... and, subsequently, felt less fearful of revealing my identity to people. When it came down to it, it really didn't matter how I was born. How they thought of me took all of the focus, and they thought of me as the person I wished myself to be.
So... what I'm saying here is, secret poster, if you've got similar reasoning, or even something else that is explainable, please, tell the people you're communicating with. Although it's not a lie, it can be hard to deal with at times. I'm sure the people surrounding you WILL support you, if your friendship is strong.
And yes, I'm done now.

7. There's no shame in appreciating the greats. <3 for CT.
8. I think you'd be surprised how little people actually care. Over a textual medium, gender's just a different set of pronouns.
12. Hmm. Now I'm curious, and I want to read the story in question.
No argument that accolades are nice, and when you put a lot of time and effort into something it can feel like no amount of attention is ever enough, but, as they say, it's about the journey, not the destination. Remember, once you get to novel-length, you're asking for a serious time investment from people. Your side of the bargain is just to focus on being awesome, and let the chips fall where they may. (Of course, mine is crack with a light crack sauce served on a cracker that is also made of crack, so YMMV.)

7. CT. ♥ I cried, too. But I always cry during touching moments in video games, so I don't count.

(Anonymous) 2007-03-23 06:58 am (UTC)(link)2) I wish I could draw, period. ;;;
3) I had a friend like that too. Since when did "I don't care for it" become "I love it!"?
5) I know one. We share the fandom, but even better, I've known & been friends with them long before they ever got into said fandom. It makes me feel kinda special in a way, because I know way more about her than any of her followers could ever imagine.
8) A part of me wants to say that I know you, but whther or not that's true, kudos for saying something.
6) Couldn't've said it better.

6. Exactly.
10. Me too. >> I always feel that it's like I'm just trying to get attention or an ego-boost or that I'm acting, I dunno, more important than I am. But I'm not. Ergh...

4. GUH. RP is sounding not to be as fun as everyone is saying it is. There are so many complaints...
9. LOL. Already in that boat. XD Man, it's awful...
