I was thinking that o0;;;

In honesty though, I get intimidated by a lot of RP these days, which is... really sad because I LOVE to RP and have no idea where to start if you're not already in the scene on LJ as it were. It feels like so long since I was involved in a decent fandom RP because it HAS been so long.

Btw, hi! I know you :D

Ahh, I miss old sk00l RP with those plot things. I used to RP in Yahoo rooms (OH GOD THE SHAME) and with small personal groups but since then I kinda drifted and never really found the loop again... Assuming there was another loop, of course.

Honestly, are there ANY 'plots' out there aside the "Your character is thrown into a school/island/porn store* with many other characters. HOW WILL THEY REACT?! WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!" thing these days? =/

I clearly do not mind the butting-in, for it is good for healthy interaction :D

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I DON'T KNOW, BUT IF YOU FIND ONE, TELL ME. I AM SO SICK OF THOSE TOO. D:

[identity profile] dr-ghost.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's the holy grail of RP... maybe? =(

Way back when I wanted to try a Death Note based RP where the players had a Shinigami quota to make and they'd make it by "killing" (read: text-tagging) people on LJ between in character banter and spin-off plots but it never really got going and the person who was going to run it with me found other interests.

Plus... I can see the wank factor from here.

Still, as lame as the idea seems now, at least it was something for shits and giggles that was more unique sounding than the stuff around lately =x;;;;;

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
YES.

Me, I love like, AU plots... you know, like, you change the character to fit the universe (and they've always been there) instead of like, oh noes worlds combined and we're lost omg! your world has magic lolz! crack! the "magic" in the world makes events happen! people randomly do OOC stuff because of it! or something. *eventual death of rp when that gets boring*

It's just... EVERYWHERE. But it seems so hard to get people interested/to get them to stay interested in anything else. >>"

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
We COULD if RPs didn't DIE on us all the time 'cause everyone else gets bored of the crack and leaves 'cause we never pay attention to the crack anyway!

I should look into this 1:1 thing. How do you go about like, randomly starting one? *dies*

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah but that like, already had a set universe and background and stuff, you know? Do you just like, randomly IM someone and go like "oh hey here's a background, let's play stuff"? >>"

People just want crack, and we want ACTION. Hell I'd be more than happy to play a proper developing friendship than one with crack reactions -anyday-

GOOD GOD, YES!! OH HOLY CRAP! ♥ WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THAT KIND OF RP?! I miss it like WOAH.

[identity profile] dr-ghost.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't mind much of anything, as long as everyone has fun and keeps things in character whenever it's fitting.

AUs can be a lot of fun if done well, but I find people just sometimes forget that AU does not instantly mean an OOC RP and it's hard to explain the difference to people. I love the idea of twisting a character around and thinking "Well, if this is how they would be in their original setting, how would they be in THIS kind of setting and how would I play it effectively?"

You're absolutely right though about how difficult it is to keep interest going. I'd love to see/start a RP more like that, but the fear of not finding a concept that would consistently bring plot ideas, keep people interested and keep new players them coming keeps me from that. Sob.

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
WE SHOULD START ONE. I WOULD PLAY.

And total agreement with the AU != OOC thing. I love doing the twisting them and giving them different backgrounds to-suit-the-setting thing -- as long as those backgrounds lead to like, the same personalities and stuff.

WHAT ARE YOUR FANDOMS.

You know what... yes, damn it, we should! Even if it fails horribly one day, it would SO be worth it even if there was just one or two AWESOME threads to start with!

Oh man, fandoms. A few and they're ALL over the place I'd be here forever... +_+;;; Userinfo and general questions for the win? :D;;;;;

OK I FEEL THE NEED TO ADVERTISE D:

[livejournal.com profile] landels_damned <- best RP ever. Beautifully structured multifandom.. and just.. just.. awesome @_@ The plot's run so very well.. and every character's a part of it, and it's the best RP I can say I've ever been in..

Here's the premise (and taken straight from the ad.. cause I'm dreadfully lazy on occasion) -

Your character wakes up in the white room of a mental hospital, their items taken, their powers dampened, and their clothes replaced with a strange grey uniform. A nurse comes in and tells them that their entire life is the product of insanity, a fabrication of their imagination.

However, hushed conversations with other patients soon make it clear that to believe such a claim would be idiocy, and that Landel's Institute resides far from the realm of normalcy that it so zealously advocates for. The days--with kind nurses, friendly announcements, and activities for patients to participate in--disguise a sinister side that remains clear to those entrapped by it even as its purpose remains a mystery.

The sinister side manifests as a dangerous reality when the lights go out. The doors unlock and the patients find themselves faced with nighttime incarnations of daytime entities: Animals grow in size and acquire a taste for blood, nurses become hideous abominations that attack unruly patients, and the man on the intercom reveals his true nature as a sadistic ringleader who taunts those who would dare mock his power.

It is under these conditions that your character must do whatever it takes to survive. Fight monsters. Look for items. Make alliances. Break alliances. Make enemies, and perhaps attempt to break those as well.

The patients of Landel's aren't insane.

But at this rate, they will be.

[identity profile] grayout.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 09:47 am (UTC)(link)
Not to say anything bad about the RP or anything, but I think that's exactly the kind of RP the three of us are trying to avoid.

"Your character wakes up in [location] and has no idea how they got there! Oh no! Everyone's confused and tries to figure it out!" <- I mean, the basic, basic premise is exactly the same thing as all the others. >>"

[identity profile] dr-ghost.livejournal.com 2007-03-23 12:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps, yes. But~ at the same time, the style of writing there seems more like what I'd like to see in a RP-sense rather than one-liner crack =O

misu, posting from RP journal, sorry I'm so lazy XD

[identity profile] part1of3.livejournal.com 2007-03-24 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Well, from what I saw, you were looking for a non-AU multifandom. Landamned isn't AU, and it's terribly (hugely) structured. The RP quality is top-notch.
I went through lots of RP communities recently to see if I could find something better, and most of them just let the character do whatever he or she wants without any structre... which kinda pisses me off.

But yeah, the basic premise is the same. But ... plot elements at Landamned = so good! they really have a riveting plot, and the STs work really hard to make it good for everyone. It's not just character-driven, I guess.

Right now we're doing Nightshift, which is a little less structured, but yeah. It's just.. unique.
