I find FFN's interface a lot harder to use, but I don't hate it for that reason-- I'll still go there to search for fic from obscure old fandoms without much presence on AO3 if any, and while I don't like how impossible it is to sort through everything without any kind of tag filtering, there are some gems there that are worth it, and it's not as if 'I think the interface is less intuitive' is the same as 'the interface is bad'! I think FFN is an important part of fic archiving history. However, I can't defend FFN on its history of purging people's hard work without any warning. I wouldn't defend it even if I found every fic purged to be objectionable, but that's never been the case. AO3 is set up to offer some protections, and I appreciate that when I remember the days when you'd go to look for your favorite fic for a re-read (or to check in on your own) and never know if it would just be gone.

The comment interaction culture on FFN is less conversational than some of the corners of AO3, which is a bummer, but that's not the site's fault. I just get excited when I see stuff for those obscure fandoms and wish I could get to know the author better.
