Actually, I just looked at the summaries of all the english language versions and all of them have different endings to the book. Apparently they are based more on the stage play.

I saw the recent BBC adaptation. (https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/1dPbFQ3YKdTYCNDmKRpGtN6/characters) I don't know whether it follows the book or play I'm afraid.
