I agree about the vampires as an oppressed minority metaphor being exasperating. On the surface it seems super fascinating and cool, but once you scratch the surface it just doesn't work. In order for it to work, the show would've had to majorly overhaul its depiction of vampires. They don't work as a metaphor for oppressed minorities when they aren't remotely disempowered.

If you can completely forget about any parallels the show may be attempting to draw and just take the world building for complete fictional invention, it's still pretty cool. But they can't have it both ways.

I loved the first three seasons of BSG. It was only in S4 that it got wobbly for me, before completely going off the rails in the last couple of episodes. :/
