In hindsight IDK if I'd say it started off excellent, but Sherlock had an absolutely massive amount of potential...which it almost immediately began to squander, and never stopped squandering.

The dynamic it set up in 1x01 just had so. much. mileage in it that it doesn't surprise me for a second it spawned one of the largest fandoms on AO3. Too bad that almost every good thing about the show turned out to've basically been a fluke.
