It's an isekai, right, so I assumed that "save" was supposed to reference the save function in video games, and 'preserving' doesn't do that

Maybe, I have no idea what this story is about, but that doesn't make the first title any less terrible. If you can't find a way to translate a title into english elegantly just use something different. Professional translators do that all the time.

Yeah, same. From what I know of it, the MC is a big gaming nerd? So it makes a lot of sense in that respect.
