The chef was named Colette, and I really liked her! She was a really great take on the whole "there's only one girl, but she's the most capable person there" cliche that keeps coming up in fiction, and the "girls must be tough!" one, too. I love how her character development had her become more independent from what her coworkers thought of her at the same time as she softened out a bit, since I rarely see those things together-- the girl always has to toughen up in order to become her own person, but can't being too tough and isolated (especially when it's just to get the respect of other people) be just as unhealthy as being too accomidating?

I don't really know if I'm a feminist or not, but I think in terms of writing women dealing with sexist situations in realistic/healthy way, Colette's one of the better characters I've seen. :3

Yeah, that's what I felt when I saw the movie, too. Sometimes films almost seem to give the message that you're not strong as a woman unless you completely cut yourself off from every emotion you feel (outside of "manly' emotions like anger). It was nice to see a film show the difficult side of that mentality, then allow the female character to soften a little...without turning her into a damsel-in-distress or taking away any of her strength.
