103 - (mostly unrelated) Which is why Devin Grayson annoys me so much. She broke into the mostly male comic industry. And what does she do to my Nightwing? Arg.

114 - I blame the writing. I think the idea was to "deconstruct" the universe like DC did with Watchmen and Dark Knight Returns to study how Super Heroes would "really" impact the world. And honestly, I think this is how it would down in our world. I know I would NOT feel good about having teenages in masks randomly breaking into jails or having the Punisher/Hulk running around. (Also: I hate the retcon that the Hulk never killed anyone.)

But yeah, the writers had to make parallels with RL politics (even when they didn't make sense) and had to spoil the whole pot.

tl:dr - word, yo.

103. Maybe I would be annoyed too if I were more reverent of the source material, but I found Grayson's run amusing. I liked watching her run crap up the flagpole to see who'd salute.

114. Oh man, tell me about it. I had to throw in the towel somewhere between the hamfisted attempts at current event parallels and the bizarre feat of writing that turned characters long established to be likable and heroic into complete knobs/utter bastards. It was like they wanted us to take sides, but then forgot that no one likes siding with people they can't sympathize with.

I mean, security vs. freedom is totally solid pitch. The question of civil rights evolving in a world where the balance of power has been shifted could give people reason to be pro-registration. In the real world, anyway, perhaps not so much in the Marvel Universe where crazy shit happens all the time. Good idea, pretty great art, I don't want to talk about the rest.
