Okay, just to make certain but the person in the picture is talking about a character they are RPing as that is based on characters stolen from a separate artist?

Does 'my character was inspired by these three characters' count as stealing? Like... that seems a thin fucking line to tread.

I think if the character itself is inspired, is not stealing, after all there's no original character or story these days (some come from certain myths, cultures, you name it) and they're not claiming these three characters are also theirs. The problem would be if they find someone did a character with the same characteristics, but without using those inspo and they start to claim "this artist stole my OC's design", which would make them a huge hypocrite, IMO.

eh, I feel like "if you didn't personally create it, you don't have the right to use it with impunity" is pretty sound, so is the problem that this person is complaining about people drawing other versions with different names of the new character they mishmashed from other character? like did the person the tweet is complaining about take the actual character/art (not likely an issue of self-awareness for the tweeter) or are they drawing something similar or inspired by (probably very much an issue of self-awareness for the tweeter).

I'm getting serious Diana "my character, whom I confessedly 'borrowed' from my fave TV show, is a literal extension of my soul and anyone who even THINKS of using him in their fanfic is stealing my soul" Galbadon vibes from this 'artist'.

And he's also her husband, and Claire is her and their daughter is their real-life daughter and writing fic about them is like rape and also selling them into "white slavery". Yeah, right. Didn't stop her taking that big juicy TV cheque. And she didn't kick any back to Frazer Hines or Doctor Who, either!

I saw that drama and thought I was going crazy. Like, if you're going to put your art out into the wide wide internet, god forbid someone get inspired by it.

I really don't see the harm in using someone's design for something 100% for fun and 100% not making any money from.

as an artist, i found this wank hilarious and eye-rolling

the minute you put something on the internet, you lose control of it, that's just the bargain you make for dopamine and clout

Related would be the fic writers who put up notes saying "don't use my OCs." And I never want to, but those notes give me the urge to use them in a fic as comic relief or Cannon fodder. I never do, but come on,!

"DO NOT STEAL MY OC" is the height of cringe. Like, bitch, please, most of the time we're probably wishing you'd kept those blatant self-inserts or wish fulfillments to yourself.

I just cannot fathom caring so much about people using random art they found online in their private DND games. I've been linked to an online RP profile that had my OC in their inspiration gallery, and since they were clearly not claiming to have drawn or commissioned that picture themselves, and they weren’t making money off of it, I just shrugged and went on with my day. Getting steamed over the idea of someone doing that but offline just seems like a waste of energy to me.

The Less than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal is a great webcomic though!
