FOMO is pretty rampant these days. I'm in the camp of, if I find out a thing went bad (e.g. GoT) I'm extremely grateful I never got sucked in. No fomo.

there's a lot of issues you have to balance. do you prefer meta and gossip about where the show is going? you won't get that if you're late to the party no matter whether you've been spoiled or not. communities in fandom move fast and while fic and art more or less remains available long after the fad has passed, actual interaction with other fans dies off quickly when they're finished and move en masse to the next big shiny. you may think you're missing out on something but you're kinda not. if it takes you time just to get into the thing, your fandom could up and leave without you while you're still into it, and that also sucks a lot.
