I think Michael's entitled to have whatever eccentricities he had after having an absolutely hellish childhood under Joe Jackson.

(I'm coming from the opinion that Michael was innocent of whatever claims of pedophilia that ruined his life.)

I feel sorry for him having an abusive father but even if he wasn't a pedophile he still dangled a baby off a balcony and did a lot of other really crazy crap. Eccentric=crazy person with massive amount of money.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-13 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
The baby-dangling was irresponsible, but god thankfully it was only done once (to the best of my knowledge), and also I blame the constant paparazzi hounding for it. I consider the negative impacts of constant media attention on him as detrimental as they were for Brittney Spears.

PTSD and childhood trauma are hell, and I think I give him a lot of credit as a fellow person who's been in a bad place. The one thing I don't agree with him about is the decision to own a chimpanzee as a pet, but I think that was from a time when people didn't fully understand that it was a bad thing to keep a primate as a pet. If it's other rich people stuff that doesn't affect any other lives, then I don't mind.

chimps should not be pets for several reasons, I do agree with you there. I used to work in a zoo and they're very aggressive.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I admit that primates scare the hell out of me for that reason. D: Off-topic, but what was your favorite department of the zoo?

[personal profile] greghousesgf 2021-10-14 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't really have a favorite dept.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
That's fair. I'm fond of the aquarium myself.

NAYRT

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
I always liked the reptile house/area as a kid. As an adult, definitely all the cats. Aaaaah, I'm a stereotype.

I love the big kitties too. Baby tigers are maybe the cutest thing on the planet

Christ. Is there some kind of bat signal for MJ fans whenever someone says something critical about him?

Dude died horribly, and had his life ruined in multiple ways.

Go ahead and discuss Janet tho!

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
And also he raped some kids.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, good. I was hoping we'd hit over 100 posts today.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Nice trolling effort, 0/10.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
How is it trolling just because you don’t like it? Bait maybe, but trolling is a different matter that this doesn’t quite fit.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt

"because you don't like it"

Oh, please. You knew what you were doing. Trolling is trolling because it's meant to piss people off. In your case, stating opinion as fact.

Yeah.

The blind idolization of that "alleged" child rapist is disgusting. The fans care more about their own emotions than children being destroyed. MJ fans are as revolting as the people who turn a blind eye to the abuse in the Catholic Church.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
100% This.

It might be alleged, but MJ stans have no more inside information than they people who believe he’s guilty. They like to say that there’s no reason for outsiders to believe he’s guilty. But by the same token, they as outsiders have no reason to believe he’s innocent. Much less cape for him anytime someone so much as alludes to not liking him as a person. They speak with such confidence, and it’s based on nothing but blind fanaticism.

He made good music, and that’s where the appreciation should end.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
We don’t give other child molesters a pass for having bad childhoods. Why MJ? Is it because he caught on fire that one time? Is this tied into that Freddy Krueger redemption thing from a couple of weeks ago?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
No, it's because there is no actual evidence except for the testimonies of people who only came forward after he died.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 01:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Testimonies are considered evidence in court, but people who are dedicated to believing that their faves are innocent always conveniently disregard that.

It may not have been proven completely, because these types of cases rarely end decisively. But there is plenty of reasons to believe the testimony of people involved.

And when the testimony came out has no relevance to anything. Unless you’re one of those people who always asks “Well why didn’t they come out sooner? Why now?” Which is extremely disingenuous.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 03:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Even Corey Feldman, who at one point claimed to have been sexually assaulted by every adult in showbiz except for Michael Jackson, looked at the evidence you’re dismissing as irrelevant and realized it would be irresponsible and disrespectful to continue to defend Michael Jackson.

When you’re not clearing a bar set by Corey Feldman, you may want to take a good look at your life.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-14 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, gee, I listen to Corey Feldman on everything else so I guess I'll have to just take his word here too.

While I do not begrudge those who believe MJ was a pedophile, even if I don't believe it, what Feldman said was that just as it hurt him how no one believed him even if he had proof (like you are doing right now by using claimed and painting Feldman as a serial accuser rather than someone who was trying very hard to put a spotlight on the rampant sexual abuse that happens in Hollywood), he understands it hurts people when he defended MJ EVEN IF THEY WEREN'T INVOLVED IN THE CASE. Hence why he was going to stop defending him publicly. Same as Mackulay Culkin.
They have NEVER said they believe MJ was guilty, they just said that, to respect victims of sexual abuse in general, they were going to stop using the same rethoric that is used to silence THEM (AKA. "He can't be an abuser because he was always nice to me)

ALSO: YES, because of this, my personal feelings of the case aside, if someone tells me they don't want to listen to MJ's music or bad mouth him in front of me because they believe he was guilty? then I take out the music, and I let them rant. Survivor's feelings always win against my love for any song.

joe was very hard on michael. he worked all those kids in the jackson 5 like dogs because that was their family ticket out of poverty. and let's not forget that joe dropped out of school to go work a job; he wasn't well-educated at all.
