Your best Halloween costumes
Or what costume ideas have you always wanted to try out, but haven’t yet?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 12:55 am (UTC)(link)It was low tech (just anchored to a piece of cardboard that was tucked into my bra) but I was so damn pleased with that.

And belated congrats on Best Witch
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
That same year, while s/o was at work, I had nothing to do during the day and was impatient to get into a costume, so scrounged up a random "autumn wood nymph" costume from ren faire garb and cosplay pieces and floral garlands and such. It was such a success that a couple weeks later I recreated it and went out to a woodsy area with my photographer sis-in-law to take actual PRO photos of it, and THOSE came out so well I decided to do a version for all the seasons, swapping out colors and types of floral garlands, and matching colored streaks in the green wig. It went over pretty well at cons even, though it's an original design and basically closet cosplay.
Also fairly proud of my Morticia Addams, and mildly annoyed that a friend chickened out of being my Gomez that year. Still want to take that to karaoke if I can ever sing again, and do "Hell" by Squirrel Nut Zippers. :D

(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 01:09 am (UTC)(link)It'd be so cute to dress up as a satyr kind of thing though if I ever get over it. Krampus is forever cool so maybe it'd be more towards Christmas but yeah.
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
But decorations are equally awesome. I usually don't have the motivation or aesthetic sense to do it myself, but I love seeing what other people do with their homes. Maybe I'll manage to rustle up some pumpkins and window silhouettes this year.
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 01:14 am (UTC)(link)since we bought a house our Halloweens have been themed, regardless of whether we're hosting a party. We've done Addam's Family, Beetlejuice, Ghostbusters, Nightmare Before Christmas, and a few others, so if we're hosting a party I have to have a costume that goes with the theme. I managed to make my own checked shirt for Adam from Beetlejuice and it was right, but hardly anyone noticed. If I'm proud of anything, it's that I found the exact poncho Giles wore in one of the Buffy Halloween episodes for our Buffy theme, even if I didn't look at all like Giles. I needed the sombrero but couldn't get one in time. And the kids in our neighborhood don't know Buffy lmao.
we don't have a theme this year and it's almost too late to even decorate. we're not having a party. I just don't fuckin care anymore, I've blown my load on other people's costumes and don't have energy for my own now.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 01:53 am (UTC)(link)What you do sounds really cool, but it bums me out that you don't have enough energy for your own costumes :/
I'll say, i love that you have themed Halloweens! I always dress up for Halloween (the laziest I did was a lizard lady which basically amounted to me smearing gold/green make up around my eyes and cheeks while wearing a black dress with a white turtle neck lol i was kinda not up for partying that year) even if I'm just going from work to my home.
Lol at your Buffy reference because the minute you said poncho it popped in my head
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
And I love that you did a Giles-at-Halloween costume, even if you didn't have an appreciative audience!
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 02:07 am (UTC)(link)My Tina Belcher was a success in part because we ate at a restaurant where the booths and walls were as such that I could get photos framed to look like I was in Bob's Burgers, even though the costume itself was pretty basic beyond the wig.
In high school I did a really good Dana Scully, had a little badge made up and a suit and someone who agreed to do Mulder.
One I really want to do but have never done (yet) is Eddie from RHPS.
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
Eddie would be a very cool costume. I feel like it might even work for people who didn't recognize what it was referencing. I mean, Frankenstein monster/zombie in 70s fashion is a cool Halloween look, even without the context.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 02:09 am (UTC)(link)1) The fourth Doctor from "Doctor Who". I curled my brown hair with mousse, sculpted my features with an extremely mild amount of matte eyeshadow, and even knit my own scarf. I was fortunate enough to score a perfect duplicate of his umbrella. The really crazy thing about wearing this getup was that i knew this girl who was a virtual clone of Sarah Jane Smith. She jumped sky high when I scared her in the library while wearing the outfit. Good times. (Not to mention that I had a substitute teacher who was a doppelgänger for the second Romana/Princess Astra... no, I wasn't hallucinating!)
2) I was in a high school skit themed as "gangster version of a scene from Shakespeare". I reused the fourth Doctor fedora for that one. Fun.
3) I was a stuffed pumpkin for a kindergarten Halloween party. My mom made it with me.
4) A Native American girl
5) A cat. I used a heavy paper mâché mask for that one.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 02:14 am (UTC)(link)6) My family went to a Renaissance fair where there was a photographer who had pleasant costumes and props to wear for picture talking. Best family portrait ever. I was such a happy princess!
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 03:25 am (UTC)(link)I was fucking furious that they all got to dress as pretty princesses and I got stuck with the stupid wizard outfit. I was maybe eight and it was cis girl me's first time being misgendered. If I could've turned him into a frog with the prop wand I would've, and it absolutely showed in my expression.
I still love ott frilly fancy dresses, but if I could pull off a better made version of the wizard getup I wouldn't mind dressing as one now.

I really want to do LOTR movie or Tolkien book costumes, but I need to lose a lot of weight before I'd feel comfortable doing that.
Re: Your best Halloween costumes
And I empathize re: weight and feeling comfortable in costumes. I've put on a lot of weight in the last year and wouldn't feel comfortable doing many of the things I've thought up in the past. I guess I'll have to either get over it or find a new costume idea.
