This. The site was supposed to be for fanart too as it was created when strikthrough deleted not only writers ljs but artists too. The site still states it's for fan works and works hard to save fan videos. So I don't see why artists shouldn't be welcome too.

They really do need to offer hosting as so much work is being lost because other sites delete art willy nilly now. And artists are quickly loosing fan spaces to post.

NAYRT--On the one hand, I agree it would be awesome if Ao3 had the money and server space to host visual media.

On the other, all the people flipping their lids that Ao3 is scamming fans out of their money with donation drives would absolutely lose their shit at the amount of money required to host images, nevermind video. Plus the ban on selling anything hosted there would still apply, and a lot more fanartists than fic writers sell their art.

I agree with you - I don't think art hosting is feasible at this stage in terms of costs, and art probably has different legal issues. (Plus people don't want necessarily want to search for art and fan videos the same way they do fic.) But it does feel dishonest that AO3 claims to be an archive for all types of fanworks and even promised they would eventually host fanart and vids, when in reality it is still very much geared towards text and especially fic - it counts chapters and words and demands a language for every work. AO3 doesn't even have a media type category, which would at least be a start, only tags. I'm not an artist, but I wouldn't blame them for feeling upset that AO3 won't even admit that hosting is not coming anytime soon when site after site keeps going after their work.
