For most fanart, I don't really get it either. The entire layout of AO3 does not really work that well for art.

But I think, at least some of the works tagged there, will just be fics with art included. Which might be one reason to post on AO3: If you do art for a fic, you and the author can link to 'works inspired by'.

Another reason might be that the artists want a place to collect and post their NSFW art, since many platforms don't allow that anymore.

But still, that is allowed by the TOS and I have no actual problem with it.

Not an artist but: fans congregate there, and AO3 has plans to be a long-term fannish archive and defend against takedown notices. It might not be the best for discovery, but as a back-up and a place where it would at least get some views, it makes sense.

I've been wishing more artists would post there tbh. I wouldn't touch Tumblr or Twitter, especially fandom Twitter, with a ten foot pole. Only thing I miss is the art.

For me, it's because I participate in AO3-based exchanges that allow people to gift each other with art. If you make art for someone, you have to post it on AO3 as its own separate work.

I always leave comments on AO3 fanart I like, so maybe it's because of comments.

AO3 is not only an archive for fanfiction. It's an archive for fanworks. Fanart is a fanwork.

It would be better if AO3 hosted the images since the idea of an archive is to preserve the content, and the content can't be preserved if the image is uploaded to a free site that closes shop in 6 months or 6 years or whatever.

Nah. I'm not sure specifically what an imagine is. But if it's like, "Hey it'd be cool if there was a fic of [fandom] about [thing] where [this] happens.", no one owes someone else credit for that.

Nevermind that for the amount of stuff I scroll past on many websites, things get stuck in my brain and may come out later and I have no idea where the inspiration came from.

It'd be different if you wrote the fic and they basically copied it word for word.

A Bigby Secret! (He was one of the men my mental harem who got me through the pandemic, yes, it's me! Lol)

Although I didn't read the comics, in all the fics I read (minus some smutty one shots) he's definitely portrayed the way video game has him -- which is to say he's aware (and remorseful) and quite frankly trying to atone (depending on the fic) for what he's done, definitely treated as a pariah.
