Because a lot of people get butthurt when they are expected to do anything for the sake of social good, unless there is a pre-established law that says they have to.

By this logic, the idea has to be so indisputably stolen from someone else that the law will deem it IP theft, which takes quite a lot. And it's a good thing that the law is usually extremely hard-pressed to rule in favor of IP theft, because we don't want to make it difficult and legally dangerous to create new art. But consequentially the butthurt pissbabies feel that if the Law doesn't force one person to credit another person for use of their idea, then how dare anyone try to make them feel that they ought to acknowledge another person for their idea?! There's no law! They have every right not to do it! Every right! *eyeroll*

I'm surprised that there are so many people in this thread who seem to think OP is some kind of entitled asshole for wanting like, a single sentence of acknowledgement for their idea. Isn't that generally considered the bare minimum of what's considered polite when you're taking someone else's idea? Even when I post fills on AO3 for anon kink meme prompts (ie. when the entire prompt is one or two sentences, maybe with a pairing specified), I still say it's a kink meme prompt fill (and link the prompt) because I literally would not have written that fic without that prompt. The prompt, however vague, was instrumental in the fic coming into existence.

So yeah, if I took an idea from a 2k word imagine (which at that length is probably an entire fic outline, with specific descriptions of plot beats and key scenes as well as actual dialog and characterization) I would never dream of not even giving the vaguest of acknowledgements. At the very least I would want to thank OP for the idea/inspiration because at that point they've basically done half the work for me.

Same. I'm very surprised by people reaction on this thread. The OP doesn't sound entitled at all, just hurt. Sorry OP.
