Vaguely relayed but just pondering this. There was a Stranger Things fic that focused on Dustin, post S2, and put forward a vision of how his life through college and having a job would be shaped by the trauma of all he’s gone through, and in the end as a grown adult he reconnects and gets together with Steve, who he had a bit of a hero-worship crush on as a kid that he now can look back on and dissect for what it was, and it’s a really thoughtful and bittersweet exploration of the characters and the inescapability of our pasts and the things that haunt you. Anyway the top comments were all people calling the author fucked up for the inherent concept of main tagged ship. I can get why seeing the tag could be troubling. But like... that’s not what it was About. I still think about that interaction, it was such an encapsulation of the current landscape.

Things like this make me want children banned from the internet.

Most of the people leaving such comments aren't children, they're almost exclusively women in their early 20s.
