A short history of F!S's Tar Season anon

[personal profile] iff_and_xor 2021-10-25 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
After the "baby sticks" secret the other day, I thought I'd share my favorite bit of F!S history for those interested.

Many years ago, there were a few odd secrets that F!S suspected were all submitted by one person, known as "Tar Season anon"...

1) On 6/19/2013 the Field Burning Time secret was posted, minorly puzzled over, and then largely forgotten about.

2) Nearly a year later (4/18/2014) there was the Tar Season secret. The same day also had the Field Fires of My Youth secret. There was much more puzzling and speculation that the two were connected.

3) On 5/29/2014, there was the Newtonian Crabs secret. This sparked attempts to link together the bizarre secrets. There was a theory that Tar Season anon was a denizen of a parallel universe that only intermittently came into alignment with our own.

I think there might also have been a secret sometime between 1) and 3) that referenced being put in "the spud hut", but I can't find it. If anyone does remember more about it or have an actual link, I'd be very grateful!

Jesus, somehow I always believed Tar Season wasn't that long ago and yet, that timestamp reveals that it happened closer to the birth of this community (circa 2007) than the friggin' present. What is my life?

This makes sense, though, because ~2015 or so is when the time warp began and reality completely stopped making sense

Pretty sure reality started to collapse in the wake of David Bowie's death.

I dunno why, but I always thought Tar Season anon was more recent. Thanks for putting all this together!

I loved the whole Tar Season thing, but had forgotten how adorable/bizarre those secrets were!

The Tar Season secrets make me wish I was a musician, because I feel very strongly that Tar Season would make a fantastic band name, and it's criminal that The Field Fires Of My Youth is not already the name of an album.
