I thought raccoons were more a northern thing? Isn't LA too hot and dry for them?

I don’t think they’re super common, but I’ve definitely seen them. I’ve only seen them at night though and in more residential areas.

NAYRT and not from LA but raccoons are really really good at adapting and are native to everywhere in the US but Hawaii.

Scroll down and look at that range map. Native range is in red. Raccoons are pretty nocturnal anyway and deserts are cooler at night, plus LA is on the coast so way cooler than the inland deserts.

(Plus LA has mountain lions, deer, bobcats, badgers, gophers, quail...)
