Same. Even if I know the artist is no fan of JKR herself, hell, even if I know the artist is also trans themselves, it's just gotten to the point where I can't have fun with HP AUs anymore, can't work myself up to enjoy a debate about which hogwarts houses different characters would be in, even when I know I would have had passionate opinions on them back in the day...

I don't judge people who are trying to pick through and salvage parts of the fandom because it was important to their youth-- for a lot of people, the books started a love affair with reading, or kept them company during a lonely/difficult childhood, and it's hard to deal with having something important to you ruined like that. When I was a heavily depressed teen, I felt like The Smiths' music got me through Some Shit, I get discovering the person who created the thing that made you feel seen is a bigot and having to decide what you do with that and how you avoid furthering harm. And AU fanart is definitely a different thing from buying official merch or otherwise directly supporting JKR... but I just feel a little sick when I see it.

It is entertaining to see the same people who slammed folks over mourning Bowie, Prince or other problematic celebs twist themselves into knots justifying why they still love HP. There is no separating art from artist with HP, JKR was a huge part of fandom, anytime she wrote or said something about the universe was an event.

Fun fact: whether or not people interact with fandom HP content makes not difference to Jokes Rowling - especially since she's still writing and hasn't been affected at all in terms of publishing books not even related to Harry Potter (she's still publishing - most recently another children's book that's xmas themed in time for the holidays which booksellers have helped to promote it).
I'll never give her another penny - but the fact that people are so up themselves in fandom slacktivism is such a joke that has done nothing to actually help trans people in any kind of support. It's literally just become an excuse to treat people like shit in hated-fandom-of-the-week. Obviously don't give money to JK and the corporations who also make money/merch with her, but people going the extra lengths to bully people in fandom while barely farting to lift a finger in protest to JK still getting published/still selling books not remotely relating to HP.

Why AUs specifically? What makes AUs worse than canon compliant fan work?

I think they mean AUs where characters from other fandoms are Hogwarts students etc. They probably avoid canon Harry Potter stuff altogether.

My only weakness with Harry Potter RTs is Luna Lovegood. She makes me so happy, and it kind of sucks JK went the way she did, because Luna's such a sweet character.
