Most people are doing a pretty good job of ignoring the parts of the post-OT canon they don’t like, including most of movie writers, so don’t give up on the X-wing series yet! And as far as the canon goes, it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. If anyone tries to argue that with you, just remember that Itchy and Lumpy the Wookies are canon, as is an extremely high Leia singing to a bunch of velvet-clad Wookiees standing in the fog.

Yep, agreed! My favorite thing about Star Wars is that canon is so self-contradictory and insane (yes, including Disney's current canon) that you can just ignore the bits you don't like and make your own canon that you do like.
