This would be a perfect use of "color blind casting" and pick a Han Chinese or Korean or other non-European actress who stands out among Turkish people.

I'll have to check out that Turkish production mentioned above, that sounds neat.

That's a really dumb idea.

Your opinion has been noted.

Nah, it’s a pretty good one.

Why is it such a great idea to change the real person's specific ethnic and national origin (which is not really part of the Euopean West or today's US)...? It's not like Western media is so great about Eastern European representation...Not all white's are created equal (or at least equally worthy of representation) in the eyes of Western media.

I honestly misread the anon because and thought they meant an “inspired by” story of an outsider to the Ottoman Empire, who would be cast by someone Han Chinese or Korean, not a direct portrayal of the real person. And I still think something like that could work.

But you do have a point that this is a bit different than what usually gets color-blind casting, and it may not be a great idea to do anon’s actual idea.

Eh. I don't think that would work well here. She was Polish, and famed for her pale skin and red hair and one of the standout aspects of her political career is that she maintained a favorable relationship between the Ottoman empire and Poland, specifically thanks to her background.

Now mind you, other ladies in the harem came from a variety of countries, so there'd be plenty of opportunities for diverse casting.
