One is an American marine, one is a (reluctant) Iraqi soldier during the Iraq war. They are forced to work together after falling into some ruins crawling with Alien vampires. Jason (US) starts out hating Salim (who is less antagonistic) on principle. Best end has them going from reluctant allies to more-or-less friends who save each others' lives and it's all kinds of "insert Rosa's dog meme from Brooklyn 9-9 here" for Jason.

But with this setup, I’m confused why OP seems to think they shouldn’t ship this. It sounds like a pretty understandable ship from your description.

I can only imagine they think it's a matter of "shipping the US marine who starts out openly antagonistic to the Iraqi soldier with said Iraqi soldier" is racist/an issue with power imbalance due to US imperialism or something? IDK.
